Scholarship Winners
Male
Winner:
Tyler Hebert
Tyler Hebert is a senior at Sacred Heart High School in
Kingston, Massachusetts. Tyler is a two-sport athlete, earning
All-State recognition for Soccer and a varsity letter in
Basketball. Tyler was also named Team MVP and League MVP
for his soccer team this past season, and was also the captain
of the basketball team. Besides excelling in athletics,
Tyler also maintains a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National
Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. In addition to
being a model scholar-athlete, Tyler also finds time to
give back to his community and is involved in his local
church. He took part in My Brothers Keeper, a Christian
ministry that serves the poor and disadvantaged from the
local Boston area. Tyler’s pastor feels that “Tyler
is one of the most impressive young men I have ever met.
I can say this after having seen Tyler’s genuine faith
in action both in school and the athletic arena. He is a
godly young man who seeks to keep Christ central in his
daily life.” Here at SportQuest, we are proud to recognize
Tyler for his athletic accomplishments, academic achievements,
and his Christian witness to those around him. Tyler will
receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college or university
of his choice. Congratulations Tyler!

Winner:
Jessica Yarbro
Jessica
is a senior at Kings Mountain High School in Kings Mountain,
North Carolina. It is tough to describe in words how great
of an athlete Jessica is. She was an All-Conference outfielder
for her 3A state champion softball team. Jessica also was
a team captain and received All-Conference honors for Volleyball
on a team that won the conference championship. Lastly,
Jessica is a team captain for her swim team and received
All-Conference honors for freestyle sprints and relays.
Besides all of the athletic accolades, Jessica excels in
the classroom. She holds a 4.0 unweighted GPA and is ranked
#2 in her class of 302 students. Because of her academic
achievements, Jessica was even selected to attend the North
Carolina Governor’s School to study Natural Science
for a six-week summer course. Even after devoting all this
time to athletics and academics, Jessica finds time to volunteer
in a number of organizations and activities. Some of those
are FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), National Honor
Society, Science Club, Beta Club, Relay for Life, Young
Life, VBS (vacation Bible school) and mission trips to Appalachia
and Wales. A pastor from Jessica’s church gave the
following evaluation, “Jessica cares deeply for people
and wishes to help in whatever capacity she is needed. Her
excitement for glorifying God has helped give her perspective
on her place in this world and has given her the enthusiasm
to do more things within the church, school and community.”
After sharing all of the above, SportQuest is proud to recognize
Jessica Yarbro as our female Athlete of the Year! Jessica
will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college or university
of her choice. Congratulations Jessica!!

Runner-up: Matt Davis
Matt
Davis is a senior at Jim Elliot Christian High School in
Lodi, California. Matt excels in both the academic and athletic
fields. He maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking all the college
prep courses his school has to offer, and is on the Principal’s
Honor Roll. He is also the senior class president and president
of the Interact Club, which exists to do community service.
Volunteer activities are also very important to Matt, as
he has spent time as a volunteer with City Ministries International,
Gospel Rescue Mission, and the Special Olympics. Matt is
also a three-sport athlete, earning All-League honors in
Football, Basketball and Golf. He was selected as a team
captain for both the Football and the Basketball team, and
was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year for the
football league in which his school participates. A faculty
member from Matt’s school said of Matt that “being
changed on the inside as he sees the world through the eyes
of Christ. He is beginning to understand that God has a
deeper purpose for his life.” Congratulations Matt,
for being nominated and selected to receive this award that
recognizes and rewards all these aspects of your life. Matt
will receive a $500 scholarship to the college or university
of his choice.

Runner-up: Charity Miles
Charity
is a senior at Thedford High School in Thedford, Nebraska.
She will graduate with a 4.0 GPA and as the Valedictorian
of her class. National Honor Society, FCA, Big Brother/Big
Sister, Student Council, One-Act Play, Flag Corps, and Sunday
School teacher are just a few things from a very long list
of extra-curricular activities that Charity is involved
in. On top of all of that, Charity is a very gifted athlete.
She has participated in three sports during high school:
volleyball, track/field, and cross-country. It is in the
latter two of those sports that she has really excelled.
As a junior, Charity was the state champion in both the
1600m and 3200m races and was the runner-up for the state
cross-country meet. She also holds school records for the
1600m and 3200m events. For her excellence in athletics,
Charity was selected as a Wendy’s High School Heisman
nominee. Last but not least, Charity is very active in her
church. She has helped out with numerous volunteer activities
and been a strong leader in the youth program. A reference
made this comment, “Charity is a leader in any group
of people whether she has a title or not. She is an individual
that people tend to naturally listen to and respect. She
makes good choices as a leader because of a deep sense of
faith, family, and self-respect.” Charity is the kind
of student, athlete, and Christian leader that we want to
recognize with this award. She will receive a $500 scholarship
to the college or university of her choice. Congratulations!!
