Highlights and Quotes: Emily understands that a successful high school athlete often has a unique platform with their peers. That platform enables her to share the gospel of Christ. “I have found that my talent on the soccer field and in running cross country puts me in a position where other athletes are willing to listen to what I have to say. Soccer has given me the opportunity to become close with people from all walks of life and I believe one of the most powerful ways I can be a living testament of Christ is through my actions and the example I set on and off the field.” Emily tore her ACL as a high school freshman and junior. Through injury, Emily found her true identity in Christ. “Looking back now, I truly believe that my injuries were not an “unlucky misfortune” or a result of lack of leg strengthening. Rather, I believe that these times of adversity were placed in my life by God so that He could draw me closer to Him and bring me to the point of full dependence on Him because in the end, that’s really what it came down to. I was stripped of my identity in soccer and my athletic ability, and was put in a challenging and uncomfortable position where I was very emotionally vulnerable. Throughout everything though, God’s sovereign hand was over me and He allowed me to go through this pain and struggle so that I could understand what it really meant to trust Him when my flesh and heart fail me. He revealed Himself to me in my most desperate moments and molded me into the person I am today, just as He will continue to mold me in other ways.” |
