In 1996, SportQuest (formerly Athletes of Good News) developed a unique award program that recognizes and rewards Christian athletes. More than 63,000 Christian athletes have been touched by the SportQuest Playing With Purpose program. Thousands of dollars in scholarships have been awarded and Christian athletes have received prestigious recognition on a national level through TV, newspaper and magazine coverage.

The PWP message is a message that is beyond this world, a message that encourages us to put others before ourselves, a message of humility with eternity in mind. Christ exemplified the PWP message with His life and Paul describes the message in Philippians 2:3-8.

3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!

The program’s existence is a testimony to the student athlete’s athletic and academic accomplishments, but most importantly, the PWP Program honors their commitment to a Christ-centered lifestyle.

ENCOURAGE - and reward Christian student athletes for their athletic accomplishments, academic achievements, and boldness to impact their generation through a life of Christian character.

REINFORCE - the commitment of Christian student athletes to excel with integrity in every area of life.

PRESENT - the accomplishments of high school Christian student athletes to colleges and universities for potential scholarships and media outlets for national recognition.

CHALLENGE - athletes and coaches to become greater leaders by serving others.

Student Athletes that meet the scholarship criteria may be nominated for the scholarship in two ways:

1. Nominated by school, coach, youth pastor, parent, or others
The nominator simply informs the athlete of the scholarship and provides instructions of how to apply online. The nominator does not complete forms or paperwork. Helpful links to understanding the program include: benefits, time table of events and how to apply.

2. Peer or self nomination
